There ain't no therapy like retail therapy

Of course, I shouldn't have done it, because, becauuuse, I'm now never going to finish Heart of Crappiness Darkness before the holidays are out, and we all know it. However, that's beside the point, because I'm not thinking about school, makes me feel icky.

But yes, after much delay, I finally got my hands on a copy of Interview With The Vampire, and, being the situation as it was, dutifully bought it. [Money is a wonderful thing] But yes. Am much, much enjoying it, and have decided to at least attempt to force myself to read HOD, and attempt to impose upon myself a "For every two chapters of HOD, you may read 50 pages of IWTV" even in saying it, I know it's not going to happen, however. It's nice to be able to say I at least considered trying.

Situations look bleak for any chances of goings-out, which, I suppose, *grudgingly* is fitting for this particular part of my life. [or considerable lack thereof] after all, I still have you, don't I livejournal? *hugs livejournal* [now is not the time to shut down or crash, livejournal, trust me on this]

I completely bluffed my way through my English A Level with Heart of Darkness... I read the first... I dunno... two, three chapters... and that was it. As luck may have it, I decided to attempt to read some of it on the bus while I was on my way to sit my exam, and I read... two pages... which happened to be the two pages the extract was from in the exam O.O I actually managed to get a B on that paper (and a B on my language paper too, but I didnt do well with my coursework, and I ended up with a D grade over all *scowls*)

What aspect of Heart of Darkness are you looking at? We had to look at the role the women played in the book...

ah the thing is, lit isn't that simple
it requires a detailed understanding, and the ability to answer an essay question that could be on any aspect of the book. well there are four essays to choose from, and those four essays have to apply to every prose text on the year 12 TEE lit syllabus for the whole state, so everyone sitting the year twelve english lit exam, no matter what texts they studied, has the same choices of question. there's no extracts or anything, you have to rely entirely on memory and understanding

it's inhumane. talk about cruel and unecessary punishment

[identity profile] bloodied-aura.livejournal.com 2004-07-20 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
yes, yes it is inhumane. *twitcH*

[identity profile] bloodied-aura.livejournal.com 2004-07-20 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
Heh, well done.
I've decided the only redeeming trait of heart of darkness is that it's not as long as Tess of the D'Urbervilles, and so, is because of this, a better book. But it's not much, is it?
Wow, that's super-luck, happened to me in the last exams, kind of (we had practise exam questions, did a practise essay beforehand with some friends, and whadaya know, the essay turns up in the exam. heh.)

We're sort of looking at all aspects of it, in particular, race. However, we're also looking at the role of Women, [I think]. We haven't officially started HOD yet, I just have to read it in these holidays. *twitch* As if it weren't enough to give us an essay to write. (Bah!)

when you made that self imposed law, did you realise heart of darkness is only three chapters long?

i find it helps to see apocalypse now, although you need to understand that the movie was VERY loosely based on the book

Do they have Cobra-mounted surfboarders in Heart Of Darkness?

[identity profile] bloodied-aura.livejournal.com 2004-07-20 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
*blink* Ah. No. However, I think the rule just changed to every fifty pages. Maybe less. But I don't think I'll absorb much that way... I think I need to buy one of those cheat literary advice cheat guides. Yeah.

I intend to see Apocalypse now, actually. must search it out. *sigh* oh, well, it's got to be better than the other movie

[identity profile] louisthefly.livejournal.com 2004-07-22 09:29 am (UTC)(link)
you do know it's 144 pages long, right?

those guides are fun

[identity profile] bloodied-aura.livejournal.com 2004-07-24 08:00 am (UTC)(link)
yes, 144 pages of indescribable agony.
*nods* know of any for HOD? :D

[identity profile] louisthefly.livejournal.com 2004-07-24 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
alexander library has a whole cabinet full of them (not just for HOD of course...but yes)
i went there a lot during TEE study

[identity profile] bloodied-aura.livejournal.com 2004-07-25 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
wow. I think I'll do that. thankyou... do you need membership, or can you just go in and study?

[identity profile] louisthefly.livejournal.com 2004-07-25 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
it's pretty much just go in there and study...you can't get stuff out though, so lots of note-taking is involved

[identity profile] bloodied-aura.livejournal.com 2004-07-25 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, I see. Well, that's ok... I don't mind note-taking, and it'd probably do me good to practise writing for huge ammounts of time anyway *cringe*
