Wow! Wow! Dubai's Giant Tower is going to be Giant!
One Billion Dollars buys a whole lot of skyscraper.

70km/h ellavators! That will go top-bottom in the topwer.
AWESOME $2Million appartments...

Whaaaa it's awesome.
Dubai is KING OF ARCHITECTURE.

800m high!

(Currently the really tall buildings of the wall are about 200m. They are still pretty high.)

Japan is planning on building a 1km high building called "Sky City."

Soo crazy.

Can you imagine how much it would suck if you lived on the top floor and the power cut out. :(

Ahaha, that would be terrible. Or having to use the fire escape stairs?

Although, I think a building like that would have backup generators... Well, I hope they'd think of that!

Fireman pole burn!
I wonder if you could reach... terminal velocity? (The highest speed possible, is that the term for it?) going down a fireman pole in a building that high?

God, it would be awesome.

Taipei 101 is pretty crazy tall, and that's only a little over 500m high. There's an open air observation deck on the highest level people can go (480m up) and I went up there when it was the tallest building in the world, it was crazy scary, the wind roared and you could feel the building move. It was dark so almost nothig around was visible. The scariness was made worse by the fact there are no other even remotely tall buildings in Taipei- it was built when the Taiwanese Economy was doing super well, and apparently there are hardly any tenants- and across the way there are cabbage patches. And a cafe that sells a drink called an 'Alexander Mochaccino' (I ordered it, and not only because it was the only thing written in English)

And as for a 1km high building in Japan. There is a reason Japan doesn't build tall buildings, and that is earthquakes. Japan's tallest building is a slightly larger, bright orange replica of the eiffel tower. Kind of lame but when I go back to Tokyo I'm going there because I like the uniforms the staff wear. What with the earthquake threat and the Japanese economy slowing down (that and the world economy slowing down) I dought we'll get the world's tallest building any time soon.

And the problem with Dubai is all the buildings use imported labour who are treated super badly. I'm really just adding that because I had a long rant and wanted to make it a little longer...

Taipei 101 is funny though. It has lights which are used as giant billboards. And I've had McDonalds in the basement food court. As well as the basement food court of Tokyo Tower.

Ooh. It sounds terrifying, with that building moving.. stuff. :( I don't think I would like it very much. I went to the top of the Rialto Towers in Melbourne last year, which I think is only around 200m tall. I wasn't scared by that, but then your tower is a lot taller! (yes, it's your tower now.)

Hah, the earthquakes, I had forgotten about that. Maybe they have thought of a way around it? Anyway, it's just what TV told me. :)
What are the uniforms like? Orange?

I didn't know that! According to my friend who lives there when she's not studying here, it's also full of perplexingly wealthy young Arab guys with vast collections of supercars.

Lights used as giant billboards?

McDonalds is everywhere! I ate some the other day, it's not as bad as it used to be.

Their uniforms are navy blue and include boaters
They're a blue copy of the uniforms worn by the girls in Madeline, and it's the Eiffel Tower (except bigger and orange)

the lights are like this http://www.taiwan-taipei.com/grafx/taipei_101.JPG but the night I was there they had Nike slogans

I have photos at home, and photos of the uniforms. If I go back to Tokyo Tower when I'm in Tokyo next week I'll be sure to take photos. In fact I might go back just to take photos. And to pretend to be a French Tourist who can only speak Japanese and French, not English.
And the Imperial Gardens are near Tokyo Tower. Maybe I will go. And post photos on Facebook

If by awesome you mean giant waste of resources that could be doing something useful for the world then yes, I agree.

But you don't know how the clients spend their other billions of dollars. They might put other money that they have towards helping others, or researching beneficial things. And besides, the building could be built with passive solar design principles, or any number of truly awesome innovations that could be tested with a building of this budget.

Hehe, nope! I was watching GWN!(Golden West Network... It's WA's Regional TV station. :) One of two, the other is WIN... errr, I don't remember what that stands for.)

But I, too, was amazeded. And I plan to reference and steal from this building as soon as is possible for uni things.
I wonder if they would let me design an 800m high building for studio? (I think I would die.)
