opening a new journal, the pages all untouched, sitting there mute, beautifully lined with no scratches or tears. Of course, a well used journal is also a beautiful thing, but in a different way. I keep going to start writing in my new journal, then stopping because I think "my writing will never be neat enough to maintain the pristine atmosphere this unused book has now."

I know exactly what you mean. Not that I'm a big journal user, but my handwriting looks like a child's, and thus does huge amounts of damage to a nice book.

The worst thing is a half-written in journal. How many of those I've started over the years.

Totally understand that feeling. Same for sketchbooks...

Books are pretty whatever the state they are in.

Heheh, yeah. Mine varies from interestingly neatish to a horrible and indecipherable scrawl, so I think we have the same problem. hehe.

Oh, same here. I wish I'd filled a few more of them, especially the day-to-day ones I used to keep when I was little, and the event ones that I never finished and now can't remember completely (TOM, Leeuwin trip, for example)
But, it's better to have half-completed ones than none at all, no? :)

Hmm, I want a really nice sketchbook too. I want a really fancy one for uni, so I can make architectural scribblings in it and feel sophisticated when I close the book (because we all know that's not going to happen from looking at my architectural drawings >_<;;)

Although, lately I haven't been having as much trouble filling sketchbooks, which I suppose is good.

I agree, but they're very different things in different parts of their lives, yes?

Yes, I didn't disagree with your statement, I just wanted to point out something.
