Hokay. So y'all know the esasy [of awesome] I was talking about before? Well, I'm intending tomorrow to go down to the Reid library and primary-source it up [or HSS-reserve it up, whichever you find most amusing], so, does anyone think it would be incredibly foolhardy to leave the essay I write today 200-500 words short of the word count so that I can fit in quotes and stuff about quotes?
Or do you all think it'd be wiser to write the whoole thing, then go back and footnote ideas and cut/paste stuff in? Personally I'm more fond of the first option, but as I am fresher I will humbly ask for guidance.

Perseus is teh bomb.

That is all.

Well, the sensible thing would be to have found and used your sources BEFORE you write the essay. If you didn't use your sources before, how did you get your ideas?

I would recommend that you quote as you write it, but that's just me. Otherwise I would suggest not leaving space. Why? Well because you can add your quotes in, and then cut down the essay. Distill it down as it were. Then you are left with only the good bits. Also I fear that if you have not already gone through the sources, you may be in for aq surprise ie. the sources may not agree with what you thought was right.

Hm, probably. However, I [may] pick up those skills as I stroll my way though this tertiary education thing.
How did I get my ideas? About ten years of obsession with mythology, and the consequent owning of a few actually credible volumes.. not children's books... about myths and legends. Not to mention that it's more of an opinion essay anyway. Oh, and I have the course books. So it's not that I'm entirely without sources so much as I want to have more to make my essay more credible get more marks.

Hm. I suppose I could do that. But I... hm. I suppose that would work. Yes. Thanks.

What I tend to do is write an essay, and when I can't be bothered making a decent argument, I leave a gap, finish the essay, and go off and find sources that support my points, and stick them into the gaps.

Ah! And (I didn't reply to your sms because of lack of credit) what was that about "Jason and the Argonauts"? I probably have the original sheet, somewhere, but that somewhere is probably the shed. Under lots of other stuff.

(I figured that must have been the case :)) Hehe. My essay was on *thinks* er, the contribution of heroes to cultural memory, using Greek Mythology [and Greek Heroes]. I was actually focusing on Perseus [who is awesome] but I wanted to give an example of the point that heroes were necessary because while they're greater than the average human, and thus more interesting, they're less than a god, and so can't get away with bad things... like for example, Zeus can sleep with whoever the hell he wants, because he's the king of the gods, but Jason is punished quite impressively for betraying Medea. That is all. It's okay though, I just wrote it in without a footnote... eheheh... And the Reid Library's copy of Argonautica is gone *weeps* But it's all good.
Thanks anyway Aunt Pol :)
