difference between Crossover and regular cat 5 cable
If you're linking the SAME TYPE OF DEVICE (router to router, switch to switch, PC to PC) use crossover.
If you're linking DIFFERENT devices (PC to Router, Router to Switch) use regular Cat5
Crossover cables are either Red, or have red ends. This is industry standard. (if you really wanna know, look doen the ends at the wires. Regular cat5 has the wires in the same order at both ends. crossover has 2 pairs swapped on one end.)
ALSO you will need to assign static IP addresses if you're not connecting through a router. 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2. If you dont do this it will never work.
